Property: The wish list – Sevenoaks

SEVENOAKS - When locals think about buying property and can’t afford to purchase a home in the capital, they turn their attention to ‘commuter towns’. These are towns that are linked to London by good train lines that take commuters to key stations such as Paddington and Waterloo. Sevenoaks is a town that I’ve often thought would be ideal. It has a fast train into London in approximately 30 minutes and that’s not bad at all. You could almost ‘have it all’ if you live in Sevenoaks, by that I mean you can work in the City and live in the country side and not have such an awful commute.

Look, I still want to buy in Battersea, but suppose I couldn’t, well then Sevenoaks would be my second choice. It’s actually considered to be very ‘stockbroker’ as a lot of them buy here… Is that a good thing?

On my favourite property site, rightmove.co.uk, I did some searching and found this property on the market by Kings Estate Agents. It’s a two bedroom cottage that oozes charm and would be perfect for me and a plus 1.

Our property tour begins with the sitting room. It has some beams running lengthwise across the ceiling which give the room some character as does the adorable fire place.

I like the open-plan kitchen diner. This is not part of the original design. Most homes in England prefer to keep rooms separated by walls and doors. But I like rooms to have a sense of flow.

Both of the bedrooms are on the top floor and seem to be a good size. I love the exposed brick here and the door  is much more interesting than the bland modern ones we are so used to.

Bedroom number 2.

The bathroom is a very safe design but I really do like that bath.

And finally the garden – long and narrow.

This floor plan gives you a better idea of how this cottage is laid out. It seems the space between the door and staircase is very tight.

I think it’s got massive curb appeal, don’t you? It’s on the market for £350 000…don’t do the conversion to your currency, it’s just so depressing!
